PhD Candidate, Michigan State University

I am a biologist (BSc and teaching degree) and ecologist (MSc) graduated by the University of Campinas, Brazil. In 2021, I joined the PhD program in Community Sustainability at MSU as a Fulbright fellow. My research is grounded on a social-ecological systems approach, resilience theory and practice, and enviromental justice. Participatory modes of inquiry and community engagement are also at the basis of my work, and I seek to co-create knowledge that can be useful for the local communities and practitioners that are my partners in research development. For my PhD dissertation, I am examining the impacts of small-scale, water and energy infrastructure projects that are implemented in traditional and Indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon. In parallel, I am also assessing the transformative impacts of a self-organized, grassroots network that works to advance a just energy transition in Brazil.
